Updated: Hwy 17 Closed After Cops Arrest Man on $1M Felony Warrant

A Santa Clara County adult probation officer's firearm accidentally discharges Tuesday evening during suspect's arrest.

A suspect was arrested Tuesday evening by area police on a $1 million felony warrant for firearms violations, which caused the closure of southbound Highway 17 near Laurel Road.

The arrest of Angel Solorzano, 22, came after the Gilroy Police Department began looking for him following leads that he was possibly in San Jose and requested assistance from the San Jose Police Department to apprehend him, police said.

The SJPD's Covert Response Unit assisted in the case and at approxmately 8 p.m., CRU officers stopped Solorzano in his vehilce on northbound Highway 17, south of The Summit and arrested him without incident, according to police.

A Santa Clara County Adult Probation officer, present as part of the investigation but not involved in Solorzano's arrest, had an accidental discharge with his firearm causing a non-life threatening injury to himself, the SJPD announced in a press release.

The officer was treated at a local hospital for his injuries. There were no other injuries reported, the release indicated.

The suspect was turned over to Gilroy police detectives as part of their investigation.
