Fiery Car Cleared From Roadway, All Highway 17 Lanes Open in Los Gatos

Accident reported north of Summit Road; car catches fire around 9:15 p.m.

All lanes of southbound state Highway 17 in Los Gatos have reopened tonight after a fiery car blocked the roadway for nearly two hours, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The car reportedly pulled to the right hand side of southbound Highway 17, just north of Summit Road, and then caught on fire around 9:15 p.m., the CHP said.

Both lanes of southbound Highway 17 were closed and a Sig-alert was issued at about 9:25 p.m. when the car became engulfed in flames, the CHP said.

Around 9:40 p.m., the left lane reopened. All lanes were cleared and the Sig-alert was lifted at about 11:10 p.m., according to the CHP.

The driver of the car was not in the car and was reportedly seen fleeing from the car. It is unknown if other people were in the car, according to the CHP.

No further details about the incident were immediately available.
