Missing Elderly Woman With Dementia Found Near Los Gatos Border

San Jose police helicopter was called out to help search for her; hovered over Los Gatos, Campbell border this afternoon making announcements over its speaker.

A missing San Jose 83-year-old woman with dementia, wearing a blue jacket and sporting a cane, was found safe and sound Sunday afternoon near the Los Gatos border after disappearing for about 1½ hours, according to San Jose police spokesman Jose Garcia.

The woman, who vanished at about 4:20 p..m., was located at 5:51 p.m. south of Highway 85, near Amelia Drive and Rebel Way, Garcia said.

She apparently went missing from San Jose's Willow Glen neighborhood and the San Jose police helicopter was flying overhead Los Gatos and the San Jose Campbell border trying to locate her, Garcia added.

The helicopter was not only searching for the woman, but was making announcements to the community on its amplification speaker warning the residents that they were looking for a missing person, he added.

"Someone may have the person in their house trying to figure out who they are and when they see the helicopter, they can call 911," he said. "We were announcing we were looking for a missing person and asking for anyone with information to call us right away."
