UPDATE: Chopper, Ground Crews Rescue 3 Hikers from Anderson Reservoir Dam

UPDATED: Thursday, May 22, 5:25 p.m.

Cal Fire crews rescued three people who got stuck climbing the face of the Anderson Reservoir Dam just outside of Morgan Hill this afternoon, a Cal Fire battalion chief said.

The three climbers were reported stuck about halfway up the face of the dam at about 2 p.m., Battalion Chief Brandon Leitzke said.

They realized they couldn't get back down the dam and either they or a bystander called for help, Leitzke said.

Two climbers were helped off the dam by ground crews using ropes while the third was pulled out with a helicopter, Leitzke said.

All three were checked out by paramedics at the scene and none were taken to a hospital, he said.

The climbers "just got themselves in a predicament," Leitzke said. Cal Fire was assisted in the rescue by the Morgan Hill, San Jose fire departments and the South Santa Clara County Fire Protection District.
