Update: Brush Fire in Los Gatos Near Redwood Estates Contained

Updated: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22: Firefighters have contained a half-acre brush fire that started this morning along state Highway 17 south of Los Gatos, a Cal Fire spokesman said.

At about 9:20 a.m., Cal Fire and the Santa Clara County Fire Department were dispatched to a spot along the highway near Holy City Road where the fire was burning up a hill, Cal Fire spokesman Jim Crawford said. 

Fire crews have the small blaze surrounded, Crawford said.

Cal Fire and the county fire department have sent investigators to the scene, he said.

The California Highway Patrol has issued a Sig-alert for southbound Highway 17 because the right lane is closed.

Original story: 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22: A brush fire reported this morning at around 9:15 a.m. is burning southbound Highway 17 at the Redwood Estates turnoff, firefighters are reporting. 

The blaze is threatening structures in the Redwood Estates rural community in Los Gatos. The Santa Clara County Fire Department is on scene with about 10 engines as well as Cal Fire with eight engines. 

Structures threatened are on Mary Alice Way, fire officials said.
