Bicycle Safety Rodeo Set For Thursday at Daves Avenue Elementary

Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police staff organize event to teach safe bicycle operation; other similar events coming to Van Meter and Blossom Hill elementary schools in April and June.

Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police officials will be holding a so-called Bicycle Safety Rodeo at , 8 a.m.-2 p.m., Thursday, March 29. 

As part of the event, fourth- and fifth-graders will receive instruction on safe bicycle operation, and, weather permitting, will practice those skills in a series of scenarios to reinforce safe riding techniques, said Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police Sgt. spokesman Karry Harris.

The department is partnering with the Santa Clara County Public Health Department’s Traffic Safe Communities Network program to present the Bike Rodeo, and will utilize police, TSCN and Daves Avenue school staff to conduct the exercise.

Bike Rodeos will also be held at on April 13, and at on June 4, Harris said.

In early February, the LGMSPD announced it had received a $103,000-plus grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety for traffic enforcement purposes.

The Bike Rodeos will be paid for with this funding, Harris added.
