6 DUI Arrests in Los Gatos Over Labor Day Weekend; 21 Percent Decrease Countywide

Overall anti drinking-and-driving 'Avoid the 13' campaign nets 309 DUI citations, a 21 percent decrease in such arrests year to year, according to authorities.

Los Gatos/Monte Sereno police arrested six drivers for DUI during the Labor Day weekend holiday of Aug. 30-Sept. 2, according to authorities.

While the numbers in Los Gatos are up by one, as five drivers were taken into custody for DUI in 2012, the countywide Summer/Labor Day "Avoid the 13" campaign netted 309 DUI arrests this year.

That's compared to 390 in 2012, representing a 21 percent decrease, or 81 fewer such arrests.

The local numbers were part of the countywide campaign that joined the national anti-DUI crackdown that officially began Aug. 16 and ended at midnight on Labor Day, Sept. 2.

Law enforcement officials will be conducting more anti-DUI efforts throughout the county and region again during Halloween and Thanksgiving Eve before planning for the December Winter Campaign periods, said Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Kurtis Stenderup.

Police, Sheriff and the CHP encourage all motorists to help make communities  safer by reporting drunk drivers by calling 911 anytime they encounter a dangerous impaired driver, Stenderup said.
