Why Do You Love Los Gatos?

There are so many reasons to love 'The Cats,' but we want to hear from you about what makes our town such a special place to live, work and play in.

Last week in Moms Talk,  gave us some and asked our readers to share their timesaving secrets.

The five members of our Moms Council commented as well as who wrote: "Simplify the morning routine was always a struggle for me. However, sharing and implementing tips like the ones above really do make a difference!"

It's comments like this that keep our group going and motivated to answer your questions, give advice and share solutions.

Here's what some of our Council members had to say:

"This is a great idea for planning out the week of clothes in advance, especially for those easy to forget 'extra' days with costume, uniforms etc. One of the biggest helps when our kids were younger but even now as they pack their own lunches is to either make the lunch the night before and put it in the fridge or have 'grab n go' baggies in the fridge of veggies, cheeses, pickles, olives, or in the pantry with pretzels, goldfish, trail mix etc. It really simplified and sped up the assembly process in the morning and since the kids did it themselves, they're more likely to actually eat their lunch. :)"

"I like it! We try to put things out the night before, but this takes it one step further. I also like Tamara's suggestion of having the kids help make their lunches ... I think the key to that is "help," not free rein to make the whole lunch. I'm afraid my girls' lunches would end up as Cheez-Its and a brownie!"

Now onto this week's topic: Why do you love Los Gatos?

What’s going on with the recent burglary in our Norman Rockwell town? This happened four months after got hit in the same parking lot! My office is in that building and I frequent these amazing establishments nearly every day! What really burns me is that these thieves are targeting the very “mom and pop” businesses that make our town as great as it is!

So over my daily delicious green tea latte Tuesday morning (you guessed it—at , of course!), I decided to call in some help! Not Batman or Superman for this mission, but our very own Larry Walker!

For those of you who don’t know Larry (not sure how that is possible given that his Alarm Company sticker is on every school door at every school here in town, not to mention the police stations, fire Stations and Library), he and his wife Kim own the most respected alarm/security company in town. In fact, when I called him, he came right over. Coincidentally, he was between meetings with some of his clients and a gentleman he flew in from Washington’s Hikvision that make those “primo” state-of-the-art camera systems they use at the Olympics.  I bet those things would have stopped the thieves who are picking on our local businesses.

Anyway, long story short, Larry and his team have come to the rescue to help get rid of these guys once and for all! Not only that, but did you know that the Alarm Company doesn’t just protect our town, it gives back to it, too! Just mention to its representatives that you read this on Los Gatos Patch and they will donate $100 of your purchase to the for our kids.  That’s the spirit … that’s why we all choose to live in such a magical place like Los Gatos. People in small towns treat others like family and once again, I feel proud to have been born here.

With this in mind, we ask you: Why do you love Los Gatos?

I love Los Gatos for the friendly people and wonderful choices of restaurants. Being a foodie, I love to try different and ethnic foods. So, if I'm looking for a family friendly, fine dining on a date night with my husband or a girls night out, I know I can always find a great restaurant in Los Gatos. Keep up the great work! Larry Walker is a superstar. The Alarm Company is really well run and their customer service is unmatched.

Larry and The Alarm Company have not only given to the schools and LGEF, but also to the Youth Science Institute and many other community organizations. I agree with Pete: Larry is awesome! What else do I love about Los Gatos? The hometown feel, the trees, the mountains, the dog-friendly attitude (but not the laissez-faire poop pick-up), and of course, the supportive community.

I love LG! It's a hop skip and jump to the 'big city' if you are so inclined. Or you can just stay home in this truly wonderful small town, with kind, helpful people, great small businesses and feel just plain comfortable. I too have an alarm system from The Alarm Company, doesn't everyone? Larry and his crew are top notch, you get a great feeling knowing how he gives to the community, a super supporter of so many organizations, especially involving the kids! Love Los Gatos and wont ever leave.

I love how we watch out for one another here in Los Gatos. Business to business, and friend to friend. The help and support is amazing. Thank you, Larry!!

Dyan Chan is right - Larry Walker of The Alarm Company has supported the Youth Science Institute and many other deserving Los Gatos community organizations for years. I love Los Gatos because of caring local business owners like Larry Walker!

Thank you Larry, again, for stepping up to support the community. You always come forward in times of need. Also, thank you for protecting my home and family for all these years while giving back to our community.

Couldn't agree with all the above more! We were robbed and we called Larry Walker to install our system and he was extremely helpful and generous. I will second (or third) that Larry and Kim are great commumity supporters. I recently asked him if he would like to sponsor an Eastfield Ming Quong event I'm working on, and not only did he say yes, but said "thanks so much for asking me"! Now is that class or what? I've never heard that response from anyone. Valerie Hopkins

I lived in San Jose for 30 years. During that time I spent a lot of time in Los Gatos with my friends. We frequented "Steamers", "California Cafe" and other pop spots. I remember many fun times in this "community feel" town. At this time I live in WA State and want to relocate within 3-6 months to Los Gatos. Looking for a nice sunny cozy rental for one person....that's me ! D Carmody

I love the small town atmosphere and strong sense of community in Los Gatos. When we were in the midst of cancer treatment for my daughter, we were treated with so much kindness from friends and neighbors, including many people we didn't even know at the time. I have always been a pay it forward person, and it was so nice to see that this is really the the norm for our community. Whenever I contemplate moving once we become empty nesters, I always look at the pros and cons and staying here always wins. Los Gatos Rocks!

I love LG for the marvelous people. Everyone is someone here. The local drivers are polite, the local merchants are friendly. The neighborhoods are pretty. Downtown is a great place to walk with your dog or a friend(don't use a leash on your friend unless it is your dog, JK!) . The view of the hills are breath taking. I can even hear the toots of the park train on a sunny afternoon. Most of all I love the short drive to Santa Cruz. I'm truly blessed to be able to find such a diamond in the Bay Area.
