Defining Your Retirement Years Is Upcoming Workshop Topic at Hospice of Valley

Retirement: How to Live a Life with Meaning and Purpose will be the topic for a Life Transitions Workshop on Wednesday, April 23 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. presented by Hospice of the Valley’s Center for Grief & Loss, 4850 Union Ave., San Jose.

This workshop will focus on the impact of retirement with respect to relationships, self-worth, and personal well-being. Participants will be asked to consider questions such as: Who am I now? What are my goals? Where do I want to be? What is my purpose? And discuss the benefits and myths of retirement.

A panel consisting of those considering retirement, recently retired, and those retired 5+ years will offer their respective insights on retirement facilitated by a licensed Hospice of the Valley grief counselor.

“While we are inundated with preparing for the financial aspects of retirement, there is limited discussion about the practical and emotional aspects of retirement,” said Brad Leary, LCSW, CT, director of social services and counseling with Hospice of the Valley.

“This workshop will offer the opportunity to define what retirement means, or is going to mean, to us. We will learn that retirement is a journey of exploration and discovery, trial and error, ups and downs, challenges and joys.”
