FANtastic Family Alliance Network!

Where to go for family resources?

Today I'm proudly introducing the Family Alliance Network, or FAN.

We describe it as a trusted family resource specialist in Santa Clara County.

With 13 members in one year and like-minded business professionals, it may be the South Bay’s best-kept secret.

The organization's goal is to help parents take care of their home, family and, most important, themselves!

Ask our experts about a particular need or concern, and you'll realize the depth of knowledge they have in their areas of expertise. That's why we think it's FANastic!

Our members include:

What makes FAN unique to the marketplace? It started with a business model like the Rotary service clubs, Chamber of Commerce organizations and BNI. However, our goal is to serve Santa Clara County families.

FAN participates in six community events a year catered to helping local families with their needs.

When I was younger, I use to put my photos in simple albums and I loved sitting on my own, or with others and flipping through the chronically of my events, travels etc. Going down memory lane 'took me back' to those memorable moments. Now, in my busy life, with multiple media forms, my images are scattered between different folders on my computer, multiple phones, cameras, and other devices. It's daunting on where and how to find and organize much less how to display and enjoy. We have some images in frames but they're from when the kids were 5 and under and they're now in their teens! They're going to be out of the house before I can figure out how to capture the memories :( Help!

Thanks for sharing this valuable resource with those of us who are Chief Household Officers. As the school year approaches I am looking for a calendar to organize all of my family's activities. Have you road-tested any? No cutesie cartoons, please :) Thanks!

I recommend the family calendar, PlanIT! Found at most bookstores it has large squares to label each family members name for their activities and a line for what's for dinner. This way everyones needs are taken care of! Coach Carrie

I LOVE the Lawn Stork business. What a great way to announce the birth of a baby or baby shower! They are just adorable when you see them in person.

I consider FAN a quick reference guide to surviving Motherhood! Honestly, the resources provided are all aimed at making me more productive, efficient, healthy, creative and best of all - save me time (which is so precious when you have kids). Essentially - making me the supermom that we all try to be. Love it!

The amazing realization for me was how I really, truly have a need for each of the FAN resource members: From green cleaning supplies to getting rid of that "sluggish" afternoon feeling, I have found so many solutions to problems I hadn't even realized I was struggling with!

Tamara, you bring up such a good point. And truly, I think recognizing that you are lacking something is the first step. Here are some things to consider to help make a plan & get those photos back into your life! 1. How do you want to enjoy those photos? (on a wall? in a book? on a boat? with a goat?) ...LOL just kidding. 2. Where are they? Best to get them all in one place- maybe once each month or right before the holidays. Many programs will do automatic updates as well. 3. When can you do it? Can you spend a 2 hours a month? How about 1 day each year? Decide how much time you are willing to devote to this project and set it aside. 4. Make it FUN! Some people enjoy playing with paper & stickers, other people enjoy enjoying a glass of wine as they make a photobook on their computer. Others find that they will truly get it done when they do it with friends or family. Whatever will make it pleasureable will also help make sure it gets done. I hope this helps!

Carla, Digital or paper? We actually make a custom wall calendar with the holidays & events for all 3 schools & family holidays. We also use google calendar so that we can sync between our various cell phones & computers. Around October (or now) we also throw some family photos into a calendar for the year & have fun reliving the previous year's activities as we look ahead to the current year.

AWESOME! It's so nice to have a central place for everyone to refer to with all the info together!

Kirsten, Great points! I also appreciate the fact that each of the FAN members is a small, local business with an understanding of local resources as well. Especially important when you need to meet in person or more importantly, need a realtor who understands the local market and what our needs are as a family.
