Obituary: Los Gatos Resident Elmer W. 'Butch' Bachman

Family and friends remember longtime carpenter and cabinet maker as devoted husband, loving father.

Elmer "Butch" Bachman passed away peacefully in the evening of Sept. 21, 2013.

Elmer was born on Nov. 29, 1920 in Fresno, California, one of eight children.

He was a graduate of Washington Union High School in Fresno, and he served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.

Elmer married his wife Verna in 1951 and enjoyed 62 wonderful years of marriage.

Elmer and Verna moved to Los Gatos in 1960, where they raised their only son Charles.

Elmer had a long career as a carpenter and cabinet maker, a trade as well as a hobby that he thoroughly enjoyed.

Elmer was an avid vegetable gardener up until the time of his death. He was also a big baseball fan and particularly relished in the San Francisco Giants World Series Championships in 2010 and 2012.

Elmer is survived by his wife Verna, his son Charles and daughter-in-law Margaret, and his two beautiful grandchildren Natalie and Christopher.

His family and friends remember him as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a true friend. We miss you Papa Butch but we know you are in a better place.

A memorial service celebrating Elmer's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at Faith Lutheran Church, 16548 Ferris Ave., in Los Gatos.
