Monte Sereno resident Miriam "Betty" Bertelsen, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Nov. 30, 2013.
Betty was born in San Francisco on March 3, 1922.

After graduating from Los Gatos High School, Betty attended Stanford University.

After graduating from Stanford with a degree in journalism, she worked in public relations although she spent most of her adult life at home as a loving mother.

Betty died peacefully in her home after enjoying the Thanksgiving holiday with her family.

She was preceded in her death by her loving husband, Bert Bertelsen, MD.

She is survived by her four children: Eric, Carl, Susan, and David, all living in California; her sister Margaret Moore of Washington, D.C., and her brothers Charles Moore of Tucson, Arizona, and James Moore of Sarasota, Florida.

She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren Mark, Katherine, and Alyssa Bertelsen; Jason, Matthew, and Jonathan Finkelstein; Rachel Levin and her great-granddaughter Hannah Levin.

Betty had a special fondness for her grandchildren who were a source of continual joy and happiness in her later years.

Family and friends attended a memorial service on Monday, Jan. 13 at the Stanford Memorial Church in Palo Alto where Betty and Bert were married 69 years ago.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Betty's name to the Sempervirens Fund, P.O. Box 1417, Los Altos, CA 94023.

The Sempervirens Fund is dedicated to preserving redwood forests in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
