Los Gatos Death Notices: Charles Dennler, Dorothy Chang Lee, Robin Kathryn Quirk

Some of the people with ties to Los Gatos and the West Valley who passed away recently.

Charles Jean Jacques Dennler, a longtime resident of Los Gatos, died on Aug. 31. He was 83. He was born on Sept. 5, 1929, in Mulhouse, Alsace, the son of Albert and Elizabeth Dennler. He spent his youth in Alsace with his younger brother Benoit Dennler and lived through German occupation during World War II. A Fulbright scholar, Dennler left France after the war to study engineering at UC-Berkeley. He became fluent in several languages and later earned master's degrees in both industrial engineering and business. He went on to pursue a career as an engineer in California. He married his wife, Louise, on Jan. 24, 1959. He is survived by his three sons, Pierre, Jean Jacques and Glenn; his daughter-in-law, Martha; and his grandchildren, Etienne, Chantal, Jean-Pierre, Sophia and Robert. He also became a great-grandfather in 2012.

Dorothy Chang Lee, a resident of Los Gatos, was born Sept. 5, 1933 and died Oct. 9, 2013. She was 80 years old. She was previously from Pasadena. Dorothy was born in Honolulu, HI where she attended her beloved St. Andrews Priory. She earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Hawaii and masters degree at Indiana University. Dorothy was a lifelong learner and was known for her amazing curiosity. She was also the life of any party. Dorothy loved family, friends, food and fun and was known for her quick, sometimes biting, wit and sense of humor. She had strong opinions about everything, and she as not afraid to share them. Dorothy was well read and well spoken. She was a gifted and entertaining writer and delighted friends and family with her poetry and prose. Dorothy enjoyed travel, and she was lucky enough to journey throughout the world. She had a genuine interest in people and their stories, and she had a knack for remembering minute details of people's lives. Dorothy was generous, thoughtful, kind and will be remembered for sharing her many gifts. She was a strong and indomitable spirit. She's survived by children Laura (Rusty), Lani (Joe), Douglas (Kellee) and granddaughter Alison as well as many other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by husband Hong-Yong and son Bruce. A memorial service will be held Oct. 26, 2013, 2 p.m. at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 20920 McClellan Road, Cupertino, CA 95014. Dress is Hawaiian casual or something bright. A light reception will follow. In early 2014 a memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, Pasadena, CA. Inurnment will be at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery, Kaneohe, Oahu. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Andrews Priory or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Robin Kathryn Quirk, a resident of Los Gatos and Cedarville, CA, was born July 21, 1942 and died Sept. 26, 2013. She was 71 years old. Beloved mother of Eric and Craid Dandurand and Deanne Tipton; grandmother to Michael, Steven, Allison, Katie, Nora, Clara and Shane; dear friend of Jim Madsen. Sister, aunt, teacher, artist, librarian, outdoorswoman, cemetery overseer, world traveler, patron saint of canine lost cause and occasional manufacturer and distributor of high-quality moonshine (she called it "liqueur").
