Los Gatos Death Notice: The Rev. Dean Charles Ellern

Faith leader made his mark by serving with love and dedication in Bay Area Presbyterian churches.

The Rev. Dean Charles Ellern, a resident of Los Gatos, died Nov. 27, 2013 of heart disease. He was 77.

The Rev. Ellern was born in Lewiston, Idaho on June 26, 1936 and grew up in the area of Spokane, WA.

He was a learned man having graduated from Whitworth College 54-57, UCLA 57-59, and San Francisco Theological Seminary 59-62.

The Rev. Ellern spent the bulk of his life working at and with Presbyterian churches and community organizations around the greater Bay Area.

He was a member of the Presbytery of San Francisco and a fellow member of the American Academy of Political and Social Sciences 67-75.

In May 2012, he and wife Lavonna moved from their home in Santa Clara to El Sombroso Oaks in Los Gatos.

He is survived by his wife, his children Nadean of Tacoma, WA and Kirk of Reno, NV and their families; Lavonna’s daughters: Adrienne, Michelle and their families.

He also leaves a twin sister, Donna of Lubbock, TX and a younger brother, David of Palmdale, CA.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos.
