Bernard Allan Findlay's celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Los Gatos.

—Submitted to Los Gatos Patch by Bonnie Knopf

Bernard Allan Findlay, a Los Gatos resident, was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on April 4, 1921.

His parents were Ivan Wharton Findlay, born in Vancouver, British Columbia, and Margaret Murdoch Findlay, born in Springhill, Nova Scotia.

He passed away peacefully Nov. 28, at the age of 92 in Los Gatos.

As a young man, Bernard served in Royal Canadian Air Force and married his high school sweetheart, Nora, in 1942.

In 1952, the family stopped in Los Gatos to visit relatives on their way to Santa Barbara, but never left, and made their home here.

He and his wife were involved in numerous local youth activities with both their daughter and grandchildren including scouts, Job’s Daughters, Hi-Y, and a Place for Teens.

He was a member of Los Gatos Masonic Lodge #292 and a volunteer fireman for Los Gatos prior to an established fire department in town.

He was a talented craftsman in many fields and a building contractor in Canada and Los Gatos. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do.

In retirement, he and his wife loved to travel in their motor home from coast to coast, and from Mexico up through the Yukon and Alaska.

He was an avid skier and could always be heard whistling a tune, or playing one on his harmonica. He brought joy and laughter to all those around him.

He is survived by his wife Nora of 71 years; daughter Bonnie Knopf (Philip); grandchildren Bryan Knopf (Kristen) (their children, Riley, Griffin and Grayson) and Claire Lindstrand (Brian).

He will be dearly missed by his family including nieces and nephews, their families and many friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Los Gatos.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Los Gatos Youth Park, or Hospice of the Valley.
