Los Gatos Jazz on the Plazz: A Few Thoughts on Nicole Henry
There are jazz singers who are entertaining. Good voices, okay stage presence and deliver performances that are memorable. And then there are entertaining jazz singers, folks that not only know their way around a lyric and a stage but know how to reach an audience, artists that open their hearts and leave us with the unforgettable.
Ella was such as singer, as was Anita O’Day, as is Nicole Henry.
From her opening note to her encore, this lady is in control.
When I saw recently her at Joe’s Pub in Manhattan we had no sooner sat down when we were back on our feet applauding her tribute to the music of not only Gershwin and Cole Porter but that of James Taylor, Gladys Knight and even The Commodores.
You see, Nicole doesn’t believe that The Great American Songbook closed at the end of World War II. She knows that terrific music is written everyday and in her hands the magic of those tunes come to life.
So join us tomorrow night for the sound jazz at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 10 at Town Plaza Park, corner of North Santa Cruz Avenue and Main Street.
You'll hear the sound of pop, the sound of our lives ... the unmistakable sound of Nicole Henry.
Jazz tonight … jazz tomorrow
