Los Gatos Jazz on the Plazz: A Few Thoughts on John Proulx

Free community concert begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7 at Town Plaza Park, corner of West Main Street and Santa Cruz Avenue, in downtown Los Gatos.

Let’s get something straight from the outset, the most requested performer to return to Jazz on the Plazz is John Proulx.

It's not Jack Jones, not Cleo Lane and not even Spencer Day. Nope, it’s my buddy Proulx.

Which, when you think about it, isn’t surprising. He’s young, talented, a triple threat (singer/songwriter/musician) and has a sound all his own.

He has a Grammy, a remarkable cataloge of recordings and a huge following.

He has closed for Michael Feinstein and accompanied Anita O’Day.

Proulx represents everything that is good about jazz ... an innovator who continues to give a nod toward the past while keeping an eye solidly on the future.

But why am I telling you this? You’re the folks that for the past couple of years have called, e-mailed and stopped me on the street asking me to bring him back.

So tomorrow night Wednesday Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m. John Proulx will be back in Los Gatos at Town Plaza Park, corner of West Main Street and Santa Cruz Avenue.

Jazz will be back in the air and I, no doubt, will be back in your good graces, having listened to some very sound advice.

Jazz tonight ... jazz tomorrow
