Los Gatos Jazz on the Plazz: A Few Thoughts on Cyrille Aimee

Cyrille Aimee performs at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28 at Town Plaza Park in downtown Los Gatos.

In 1925, Josephine Baker left the U.S. for Paris and France and it was never the same.

Tomorrow evening, the French are going to return the favor as Cyrille Aimee comes to Jazz on the Plazz and we end our Summer of Gershwin in a very, very big way.

A young woman with an old soul and a remarkable history, Cyrille was born in the village of Samois-sur-Seine where each year gypsies from throughout Europe arrive to pay tribute to Django Reinhardt.

Having played and sung with Reinhardt’s grandsons, she is considered part of their family.

Tomorrow evening Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Town Plaza Park she’ll join our family and I welcome her with open arms.

Her voice and her music are, simply put, exquisite. I hear her and I am taken back to a time when jazz was beginning to stretch its wings, a time when the unexpected was common place and passion was the coin of the realm.

That time has come again in the form of a diminutive young woman who sings in many languages yet communicates in but one … jazz.

Tomorrow we say goodbye to summer and hello to the extraordinary Cyrille Aimee.

I can think of no better to way to bid adieu to a very good year.

Jazz tonight ... jazz tomorrow
