The memorial service for the slain Santa Cruz police officers is yet one more reminder that, as my father used to say, 'We gotta talk.'

 

Today, the Shark Tank will be filled to capacity.

The Governor will be there along with local dignitaries, civil servants and a whole lot of just regular folks.

The difference will be that the crowd won’t be wearing teal … they’ll be wearing black.

It seems as though every time something like this happens, either in the line of duty or on the way to class, the first thing people do is change the subject.

Let’s be clear on this, what happened last week was not caused by the person is in the White House. Nor was it a result of the Second Amendment.

It was simply a tragedy, a tragedy that has left children with one less kiss goodnight and husbands and wives with one less person to share a morning coffee. 

Why it happened is as an important a question as, “How could it have happened?”

At some point we, as a people, need to start dealing with these questions.

The wake up calls keep coming and last week Santa Cruz got theirs.

One can only wonder when someone is going to answer.
