A Few Thoughts on Monterey Jazz Festival County High School All Stars
The Monterey Jazz Festival County High School All Stars perform at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21 at Town Plaza Park in downtown Los Gatos.
Scarlett O'Hare called it, "another day."
Little Orphan Annie said it was when the sun would come up.
And E. E. Cummings calls it, "Our permanent address."
It is tomorrow and it's coming to Jazz on the Plazz in the form of some remarkably talented young people.
While they have visited each summer for nearly a decade, no musician has ever returned.
They sit, they play and they move on.
If there was ever a musical version of lighting in a bottle, it's this group. All high school and all world, the fact that these folks are so together defies logic. But, then again, so does talent.
Their appearance in Los Gatos each year is more of a coming of age ... for all of us. So, tomorrow is the day when we're once again granted a sneak peed into the future of jazz.
I promise you, you are going to like what you see and love what you hear. Eat your heart out, Capistrano. You may have the swallows, but we've got the kids.
jazz tonight ... jazz tomorrow
