Traffic Calming Measures in Belwood

How to slow traffic in Los Gatos residential neighborhoods? Meetings are part of the formula.

Residents of Belwood of Los Gatos on the east end of town have been grappling with some traffic issues, mainly speeding, rolling through or otherwise ignoring stop signs, as well as "cutting through" rather than utilizing main roads such as Blossom Hill. In May, there was a Belwood community meeting for traffic calming and it was well attended.

Later there was a vote by those living on impacted streets as to whether or not there should be speed humps or other devices to divert and slow traffic. Long story short, the Belwood neighbors endorsed two speed bumps or humps: one near the community pool (between Blossom Hill Road and Bacigalupi on Belwood Gateway) and the other also on Belwood Gateway between Bacigalupi and Harwood.

The Town Council endorsed this in an August meeting. The road was painted in two places to indicate where the humps would be installed. But some of the locals felt that the process wasn't quite right, that the issues weren't addressed in the best way possible, and another meeting was called on the hyper-local level for tonight.  This time it was just for 15 houses.

You can read about that meeting, and the resolution, on the BelwoodOfLosGatos.com site.
