The public is invited to bring their animals to be blessed by priests Tuesday, Oct. 4, promptly at 8 a.m. on the blacktop at St. Mary’s School, 30 Lyndon Ave.
The blessing of animals at St. Mary’s is in connection with the Feast of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals and the environment, according to Sister Sister Nicki Thomas, principal at
Catholic social teaching focuses on care for God’s creation, which includes the love we show to the animals in our care, Thomas said.
Participants are kindly asked to follow these guidelines:
- Nervous, aggressive, or unavailable creatures can be represented by photos or drawings.
- All animals must be under control and restrained by leashes, ropes, crates, carriers, etc.
- Bring necessary materials or tools to help with appropriate clean-up of any animal waste
- Make sure every animal has identification in case one gets loose
