5 Things You Need to Know Today, Nov. 6

Get some exercise this morning and support a great cause by participating in the Los Gatos Saratoga Observation Nursery School's 5K Turkey Trot at Vasona Park.

1. The Los Gatos Saratoga Observation Nursery School presents its 5K Turkey Trot 9 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 6, at Vasona Lake County Park, 333 Blossom Hill Rd. Same-day registration takes place at 9 a.m., with the race starting at 11 a.m. Snacks will be provided for participants, and lunch will be available for purchase immediately following the race. Post-race activities include a musical performance featuring Mr. David & The Buckwild Band, activities hosted by Mt. School classes and raffle drawing. Pre-registration fee is $25 for adults and $15 for youth ages 6-15. Late registration fee is $30 for adults and $20 for youth ages 6-15. Children 5 and under are free. 2. The 26th annual Los Gatos Art Association annual members' juried show runs through Dec. 4 at the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center, 14855 Oka Rd. Reception and awards are 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6. The guest juror is Kim Lordier. She is a graduate of the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, a signature member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters as well as the Pastel Society of America, distinguished pastelist in the Pastel Society of the West Coast and artist member of the California Art Club. 3. Operation Care and Comfort is holding its annual "Trick or Treat for the Troops" candy drive through Nov. 14. The organization has collection bins set up at Daves Avenue, Van Meter and Lexington elementary schools and at Raymond J. Fisher Middle School, Los Gatos High School and the Los Gatos Public Library. Your leftover candy will be shipped during the holiday season to military personnel serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. Please, no "body parts" or "eyeball" candy. 4. The Museums of Los Gatos Historic Homes Tour takes place 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 5-6. Five charming older houses are on tour that have been remodeled by local architect Gary Schloh. Tour tickets are $40 and proceeds benefit the nonprofit Museums of Los Gatos (arts and history) organization. Details: 408-395-7386.

5. , 24040 Summit Rd, hosts a fashion show, silent auction and Tuscan-inspired hors d'oeuvres 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10, benefitting the American Cancer Society. Tickets are $75 and include a complimentary glass of Regale's limited production Italian varietal wine, and a copy of the 2012 Calendar for a Cure featuring European model Valer photographed by Trisha Leeper Photography.
