5 Things You Need to Know Today, Nov. 28

1. The 13th annual Fantasy of Lights show continues every evening 6-10 p.m. through Saturday, Dec. 31, including holidays, at Vasona Lake County Park, 333 Blossom Hill Rd. The event consists of a 1.5-mile drive-through holiday lights and display entertainment extravaganza. According to organizers, the show is the premier holiday lights spectacular in Northern California. Details: 408-355-2201.

2. West Valley College's Global Citizenship Committee sponsors The Rising Tide: A Documentary on Contemporary Chinese Art at 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 28, in the campus' theater, 14000 Fruitvale Ave. Tickets are $8 and there's free parking in lot 7. Details: 408-741-2001.

3. The Los Gatos-Saratoga 55 Plus Program presents Miracle on 34th Street at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the Adult Recreation Center, 208 E. Main St. The free movie relates the tale of Santa falling down drunk in the Thanksgiving Day Parade and reluctant Macy’s supervisor Doris Walker (Maureen O’Hara) offers the job to a bearded Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn) purporting to be the real Santa! During the Christmas season, he shares a flat with Doris’s neighbor (John Payne), who has eyes for Doris. Kris hopes to unite the two while winning over Doris’s skeptical 6-year-old daughter (Natalie Wood). Details: 408-354-1514.

4. Dec. 8 is the deadline to apply to serve on a town advisory body to make a positive, lasting difference in your community. There are vacancies on the Arts and Culture Commission, Parks Commission, the Building Board of Appeals, the Parks Commission and Transportation and Parking Commission. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for Monday, Dec. 19. Details: 408-354-6880.

5. The Town is soliciting proposals from artists for banner designs for downtown Los Gatos. The banners will be installed in downtown Los Gatos, in the area surrounding Town Plaza Park. Artists must be 16 years of age or older, and must be a resident of Los Gatos, including its unincorporated neighborhoods. Designs must be on the theme of "The History and Arts of Los Gatos," or of "The Flora and Fauna of Los Gatos." Proposals are due by 5 p.m., Jan. 18, 2012. Details: Regina Falkner, 408-354-6832.
