Los Gatos Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Set For Friday Evening

Event begins at 5 p.m. at Town Plaza Park and includes music and fun activities for children and adults, plus a special visit from Santa Claus.

The Town of Los Gatos and the Los Gatos Community Foundation co-host the annual holiday tree lighting spectacular at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 at Town Plaza Park, corner of East Main Street and Santa Cruz Avenue.

The festivities begin at 5 p.m. and Santa is scheduled to arrive at 6:01 p.m.

The History Club of Los Gatos planted the majestic fir in 1923.

The flick of the switch will be performed by new Los Gatos Mayor Steven Leonardis, who will choose a child from the audience to help him do the honors.

As in years past, the Los Gatos High School and Fisher Middle School bands will perform and there will be plenty of fun for children to enjoy.

Los Gatos Music & Arts, producers of Jazz on the Plazz and Music In the Park, will present Victorian Carolers who will lead holiday merrymakers in traditional holiday songs at this year's ceremony.

Santa Claus will be escorted to his bench by the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Explorer Post accompanied by holiday singing.

The foundation will be selling kettle corn, coffee and hot chocolate and accepting donations to help fund its scholarship and philanthropic endeavors.

Santa returns to the North Pole at about 7 p.m.
