Patch Watch: Trash at Jones Road Trail Entrance

A sign telling trail users that there are no garbage cans at the gate of the Jones Road Trail is not deterrent enough for litterbugs.

Empty beverage cans, disposable coffee cups, lots of dog poop baggies and other garbage are being illegally dumped at the entrance of the Jones Road Trail in southeast Los Gatos.

The irony of it all is that the offenders are discarding their rubbish right under a sign that tells them that no trashcans are provided and to pack their garbage out.

The garbage has been left lying beside the chain-link fence where the gate to the trail's entrance is located.

To access the trail, one must go beyond the fence to inside the park where the small piles catch one by surprise.

LOCATION: Novitiate Park, at the end of Jones Road where entrance to Jones Road Trail is located, 259 Jones Rd. in Los Gatos.

PROBLEM: Garbage is being dumped at entrance of trailhead near the chain-link fence.

RESPONSIBLE AGENCY: Los Gatos Parks and Public Works Department, 408-399-5770, or email department director Todd Capurso at tcapurso@losgatosca.gov.

There are a number of people who would like to see the Jones Road entrance closed because of the foot traffic it causes on Jones and College Ave. This just adds another reason to get it closed.

i am extremely bothered by this trash. i am a regular trail runner in the park, and i make it a point of carrying out any trash i see back in sierra azul there is little point trying to address those dropping the garbage because they aren't reading this. what needs to be addressed is why there are no trash cans at the jones entrance. i'm tired of being told it "can't happen" for some reason or another...the people in the town govt take orders from us, not the other way around. i know it is a trivial matter in the grand scheme of things, but i am going to start pushing harder to get this fixed, it is simply ridiculous that a trash can cannot be put in place there.

Would be great if personal responsibility and values were on the same plane regarding nature, the planet, and shared spaces...

This is really too bad that people don't take on their responsibilities in picking up after themselves. And hate to say you see it more often in the Summer season. I try & do my best & pick up after them. Because you can't change people.

Last time I looked there was an abandoned town trash can lying along side the Honda dealership construction site. Perhaps someone might pick it up and take it to the site. The town may then get the hint.

I can't believe it's that hard for some people to pack their trash out. Just bring an extra bag and put it in there until you get to a trash can. Not that hard.

A very good idea. How can we get this done? I am sure that the residents on Jones Rd would love to see fewer cars parked along their street too.

LITTERBUG, LITTERBUG! What have you done? Had that garbage in your hand, and you threw it on the ground, If I live a thousand years, I will never understand Why you think the whole world is your garbage can!

I'll take foot traffic over car traffic any day.

This is a terrible situation. I am mostly dismayed at the trash droppers! Yes, there used to be trash can which were discontinued. Then some nice people started putting trash bags along the fence. Now that the trash bags are gone, some incredibly selfish and lazy people are leaving their trash along the fence. People, if you can't carry your trash another few blocks, stay home!!!!! Of course, as Ar pointed out, the people who need to read this won't. :(
