Happy 50th Anniversary, Mulberry School!

Mulberry School celebrates its 50th anniversary this year with the burial of a time capsule in the campus courtyard garden, which will be opened in 2038.

Los Gatos' Mulberry School, 220 Belgatos Rd., is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with the burial of a silver, rectangular time capsule in the campus courtyard garden.

The private preschool-through-fifth-grade school was founded in 1963 by members of the American Association of University Women.

The time capsule, which will be opened in 25 years, contains items from all of the school's 143 students, said Mulberry director of admissions and marketing Deanna Haugaard.

A small ceremony was held Tuesday during which Head of School Kara Riordan dedicated the time capsule, which will buried under a large boulder.

Each child worked on projects to represent the school's values of integrity, collaboration, discovery, self-knowledge, engagement and community, according to Haugaard.

The time capsule contributions ranged from self-portraits with a descriptor word, to weaving and small tiles strung together, Haugaard added.

The school also added its newsletters and a photo of its staff for future generations to see.

The school moved to Los Gatos from Campbell in 2004.
