The Tech Challenge: Trash Island

The Tech Challenge is an annual team design challenge for youth in grades 5 through 12. A signature program of The Tech Museum, the challenge introduces and reinforces the scientific process with a hands-on project geared to solve a real-world problem.

This year's challenge is called Trash Island: The Great Pacific Gyre. Marine scientists are asking The Tech Challenge's young engineers to help them clean the seas. Your team's challenge is to design and create a device that can collect trash from the ocean without harming marine life. In the past challenges, you have explored volcanoes, moved water without electricity, and even helped NASA clean up space. For more information visit the Tech Museum website.
