SUNDAY ASSEMBLY SILICON VALLEY
Part Atheist Church, Part Foot-Stomping Show and 100% Celebration of Life

Sunday Assembly Silicon Valley is excited to announce the launch of their first event at 7:00 pm on November 11 at Theatre on San Pedro Square. The Sunday Assembly is a godless congregation that is part atheist church, part foot-stomping show and 100% celebration of life. Its motto is “live better, help often and wonder more.”
Silicon Valley gathered enough support to win a coveted place on The Sunday Assembly’s first global start-up tour, 40 Days and 40 Nights, which sees the start of Assemblies in the UK, US, Canada and Australia. Registrations for Silicon Valley’s first event have quickly filled the capacity of the theatre, encouraging the team to book a bigger space for the next service. Local organizer Shannon Guymon said, “Looking forward to getting people together to celebrate life and eat cookies.” Although the free event is technically sold out, the group's Eventbrite site has started a waiting list.
Cheekily borrowing from more than 2,000 years of religious success, Assemblies are modeled after traditional church services. Participants sing great songs, listen to topical speakers, enjoy interesting readings, and, everyone’s favorite, have a cup of tea and a cookie afterwards. The joy and wonder comes without reference to religion or gods.
The theme of the first Assembly is ‘Beginnings,’ and Sanderson Jones, charismatic co-founder of The Sunday Assembly, will be over from London to emcee. Daniel McCoy, a technical director from Pixar, will give the guest talk and comedian Matt Kirshen, of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, will perform the reading.
After a social game night on December 15, Sunday Assembly Silicon Valley will begin meeting regularly at 11:00 am on the second Sunday of the month at the San Jose Women’s Club. The next services will be held on January 12, and February 9, 2014. To join their mailing list, go to www.meetup.com/Sunday-Assembly-Silicon-Valley/events/145430412/
