Technologies have advanced and costs have decreased to such an extent that scientists can now synthesize DNA and use computer-aided design software to 3-D print cells and biological tissues.  This means we can create biological systems starting from scratch such as man-made bacteria, cells and living tissues that can be used as models for testing disease therapies.  Biosafety, biosecurity and ethical concerns will be discussed. This lecture is presented by Ryan McGuiness, a Silicon Valley-based scientist with more than 20 years of experience in gene therapy and biotechnology. Ryan has held key research positions at Cell Genesys and Molecular Devices.

Each lecture is one hour with an hour after each lecture to socialize with other adults and meet the speaker.  Refreshments will be served.
