Snow Falls in Los Gatos Mountains

Did you see any white flurries during Tuesday's burst of winter weather?

Update: 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19: Snow was falling at the Summit of Highway 17 in the Los Gatos Mountains, California Highway Patrol officer Sarah Jackson reported around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Snow fell in the highest reaches of the Santa Cruz Mountains on Tuesday, as a fast-moving cold front bought cool temperatures and precipitation to the region.

Snow levels in the Bay Area fell to 2,000 feet, according to the National Weather Service in Monterey. One to three inches of snow was predicted for elevations of at least 2,000 feet, and up to four inches of snow as possible above 3,000 feet.

Patch blogger Valerie Lemke sent in a photo of snow accumulating at the intersection of highways 9 and 35, north of Boulder Creek that her husband, Steve, took Tuesday. The elevation there is 2,608.

The snow shouldn't have had much of an impact on motorists. At 561 feet above sea level, Scotts Valley was well below the snowline and the summit of Highway 17 is just of the mark, at 1,800 feet.

More rain is expected later in the week in Los Gatos and Santa Cruz Mountains.
