Updated: Sheriff Rules Out Homicide For Body Found in Saratoga

Dead man is found at 7 p.m. at Saratoga Springs campgrounds.

Update: 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15: Homicide has been ruled out by sheriff's investigators in the death of a man whose body was discovered at Saratoga Springs campground Friday evening.

The Santa Clara County sheriff's lieutenant in charge of the investigation has indicated there's nothing suspicious about the death and the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office will have to conduct an autopsy to determine if he died from natural causes or due to an accident, said sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jose Cardoza.

"It's not a homicide case," he said.

Cardoza also said investigators still don't know if the man had been camping in the unincorporated Saratoga campsite located at 22801 Big Basin Way at Sanborn Road, just three miles west of Saratoga on Big Basin Way, which is also known as Highway 9.

Detectives were continuing to interview campers at the site late Friday evening and early Saturday morning to gather more information about the death. "It's unknown whether he was an actual camper or if he just happened to be in the area prior to the death."

The body also didn't have any gun shot or stab wounds and didn't seem too badly decomposed, indicating the man hadn't been dead a long time before being discovered at about 7 p.m. Friday, Cardoza said. "It's uncertain how long he had been there," he said.
