Los Gatos Woman Wins Sewing Challenge

New mom Julie Grantz LeFrancois receives $1,000 gift card for turning old maternity pants into costume for her baby.

Los Gatos resident Julie Grantz LeFrancois has won a national sewing challenge during which she used her old maternity pants to make a costume for her baby.

Grantz LeFrancois received a $1,000 gift card from the company that sponsored the competition—Aurora, IL-based Bernina of America. She will also be mentioned in the company's WeAllSew blog.

Grantz LeFrancois said she felt honored and lucky to have won the competition, whose theme was “Break the Spell of Routine Halloweens!”

Participants were asked to up-cycle the “scariest” items in their closet into a stylish new costume for the Halloween season.
