Applicants must be residents of Los Gatos and be actively contributing to the field of poetry.
The role of the poet laureate is to encourage the appreciation and advancement of literary arts in Los Gatos, with an emphasis on poetry, the town said in a press release.
To accomplish this, the poet laureate will provide original poems for significant Town events and undertake activities such as poetry readings, workshops, and other efforts to promote the expression of poetry in the community.
Local writer Parthenia Hicks has served as poet laureate for Los Gatos since 2010. Her two-year term has offered several significant opportunities to feature poetry, including the ground-breaking and grand opening of the new library, the installation of a time capsule, and the celebration of the Town’s Jubilee Year 125th anniversary.
The new poet laureate's term begins Jan. 1, 2013 and would end Dec. 31, 2015.
Applications for poet laureate are due Nov. 1 and are available, along with more information, by clicking here.
