5 Things You Need to Know Today, Aug. 23

Please join the Happy Hoofers today for their regular Tuesday walk. It will do your body wonders.

1. All programs and services at Santa Clara County Library District branches will come to a halt today, Tuesday, Aug. 23, to allow for the maintenance and upgrading of the district's library and computer systems. That means Los Gatos residents, who have a regular  card and a county library card, won't be able to use the system library branches in Campbell, Cupertino and Saratoga. 2. 55-Plus Program sponsors Happy Hoofers at 9:15 a.m., every Tuesday. Meet in the downstairs lounge of the Los Gatos Recreation Center, 208 E. Main St. This free lively walking group welcomes walkers of all fitness levels. Details: 408-354-1514.

3. The, 16575 Shannon Rd., is inviting the public to its stage adaptation of the well-loved 1939 MGM musical The Wizard of Oz at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 26; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 27; 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 28; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 2; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 3 and 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 4. 4. Have you signed up for the second-annual Jill’s Ride for Hope, 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 27, beginning at Los Gatos High School? The fundraising event helps the nonprofit CASSY—Counseling and Support Services for Youth— at  which provides students with crisis intervention, ongoing counseling and proactive mental health education at no charge. It has been at LGHS full time since shortly after Jill Naber's death and the deaths of two students from separate causes. The event will feature a 5K bike ride, run or walk, a 30K bike ride and a 100K bike ride for serious athletes. There will also be a barbecue lunch at the school’s Memorial Plaza. 5. Saratoga's West Valley Muslim Association will host a Ramadan iftar, a breaking of the fast dinner, at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, 19848 Prospect Rd., in Saratoga. The dinner is complementary, but reservations are required. Details: 408-986-9874.
