Mountain Skyland Run Raises $9K

The nineteenth annual Skyland Run was held July 2, 2011 raising over 9K for local charities.

The 19th annual Skyland Mountain Run, held July 2 at the Radonich Ranch, off Summit Road at 25140 Highland Way, raised more than $9,000 to benefit 17 organizations, including Girls on the Run, according to race director Terry Leary.

Once again as it has done for the past 19 years, Skyland Church organized the run to raise money for worthwhile causes. The event is a lot of fun for all of the participants and includes a pancake breakfast at the end of the race.

This year there were close to 300 entrants, including Victor Longo, who placed first in the men’s 70-plus age division and has run in every race since the series started in 1992. Next year’s race will be July 14 also at the Radonich Ranch. Registration will be available online through All Sports Central.

Mountain resident and runner Dane Sawyer was the overall winner in the 10K race for the fifth year in a row. Grant and Jennifer Foster, a brother-and-sister team, turned in the best overall times for male and female runners in the 5K race, and their brother Chris was first in the under-14 class in that race. There are lots of opportunities to win awards as there are 5K- and 10K-category winners.

After the run, participants enjoyed some time in the sun with their fellow runners and savored a delicious breakfast of pancakes, bacon and eggs and fresh fruit served by members of the Skyland Church, which hosted the event.
