Palafox explained the property owner and the lease broker Bob Quigley, senior vice president of SRS Real Estate Partners in San Jose, are being flexible with potential lessees who might be interested in renting more than one of the planned partitions.

"If we get one tenant, it's OK. It all depends on the size the tenant will need. It's very flexible," Palafox added.

Palafox said the owners had to request a building permit to remodel the hotel and the construct the commercial building, which is just about a mile away from downtown Los Gatos. He declined to reveal how much the project has cost.

On the hotel's website, owners indicate they're open during the construction 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

In April, the hotel updated the project's status announcing that the retail building's framing was completed and that the hotel's lobby and pool are coming soon. "We anticipate being fully completed with renovations by this fall," the hotel's website said.

Prior to the retail building being constructed, the hotel's front was empty land, according to Palafox.
