What Happened to The Green Papaya?

Restaurant seems to have closed without any public notification.

, the quaint Vietnamese food restaurant in the heart of downtown Los Gatos, has officially closed, leaving many customers wondering what happened.

Was the restaurant, located at 137 No. Santa Cruz Ave., a victim of the still-sour economy? Did the owners have a hard time retaining customers?

Neither town officials nor staff seemed to know what caused the eatery to shutter, saying only they had heard the news and had seen the restaurant's large glass windows covered up with paper from the inside.

Los Gatos Assistant Town Manager Pamela Jacobs said she believed the restaurant has closed and added that "given the ongoing demand for restaurant space in Los Gatos, we’re sure that another restaurant will lease the premises in a timely manner."

Employees who work for the restaurant's neighbors, and ., said the owner of the property had already leased the space to a new eatery coming in.

The restaurant's website is still active, but the phone number listed for the business is no longer in service.
