TRX Fitness Craze Hits Los Gatos

The Los Gatos Addison Penzak Jewish Community Center, 14855 Oka Road, announced this week it's the only fitness center in the South Bay with TRX-certified instructors.

The Los Gatos Addison Penzak Jewish Community Center, 14855 Oka Road, announced this week that it's the only fitness center in the South Bay with TRX-certified instructors.

The regimen, also known as Total Body Resistance, uses one's weight to achieve fitness.

The center said it's offering TRX TEAM Blocks classes to its members with great success.

TRX is available at many gyms throughout the South Bay, but small group classes designed by the TRX company, with TRX-trained instructors, are only available at the JCC in Los Gatos, said JCC Assistant Director of Sports and Fitness Erin McMahon.

McMahon said the exercise method was invented by a Navy Seal in the late 1980s. Its expansion began in 2005, when founder Randy Hetrick marketed it to major corporations and sports leagues.

All four branches of the military have implemented it in their training rooms, McMahon said, adding that many professional athletes have also used it.

The San Francisco-based company uses two cables to suspend the user while performing the exercises that include lunges, pushups and others.
