Patch Watch: Illegal A-Frame Signs
Should non-conforming business signs be banned and violators be punished by the Los Gatos Code Compliance Division?
A reader sent these photos to us taken in downtown Los Gatos demonstrating what he called an "ever increasing" A-frame sign violation, which is against the Los Gatos Town Code.
According to town code: "No person or owner shall erect or permit a sign to be located outside of a building or business, unless authorized by a town-issued permit.
"The term 'sign' shall include "A-frame" signs, sandwich boards, banners, or any other type of off-premise sign located anywhere outside the building. The area 'outside' a business includes doorways, walkways, sidewalks, and driveways leading toward the entrance of a business."

A complaint about a possible code violation may be made by letter, telephone, email, or in person to the appropriate town department. In an average year, the town receives several thousand complaints related to possible code violations, according to the Los Gatos Code Compliance Division.
