Mmoon Empanadas Opens in Los Gatos

Grand opening on Aug. 4 had Los Gatans munching on delicious gourmet-style stuffed pastries all day long!

Argentinian brothers Michael and Alex "Marco" Mendez officially opened their second Mmoon Empanadas location in Los Gatos on Saturday, Aug. 4 next to , 81 W. Main St.

The other Mmoon Empanadas location is in downtown San Jose’s historic San Pedro Square at 177 W. Santa Clara St. It was opened in September of 2010.

Some of the empanada varieties include macaroni and cheese, carne (beef), pollo (chicken) and queso y cebolla (cheese and onions), corn, spinach, sausage and jamon y queso (ham and cheese), to name a few.

The restaurant's hours of operation are 8 a.m.-9 p.m., Sunday through Thursday; and 8 a.m.-10 p.m., Friday through Saturday. Details: DeLayne Achee, 408-999.0288, or infolg@themmoon.com.

My favorite ... empanada de carne! Pretty authentic! I grew up eating empanadas and I love them. But you can't just have one or two. Try ordering four for a satisfied belly! They're delicious! You can run off the calories later at the Dammit Run this Saturday!

Buen Futuro .............This location has sort of been jinxed with lots of turnover tenants. There has never been that welcoming feeling you get at Coffee Roasting. Formula business's don't seem to make it in downtown. A smile, a hello, a little extra effort is the key to success. So you guys are from Argentina. They moved in on top of Blendz improvements (automat decor) which are cold and unwelcoming, sort of Burger King looking. Ok, I though but if the food is good so what????? I had the beef empanada. It was so perfect and pretty that I though it was storebought. The inside was some sort of goo. The crust was not authentic. Not going back. Do we really need a faux fast food cookie cutter operation downtown. Who are they catering to: tourists?????

I love the goo that you describe, Larry! Sorry you didn't like it. I'm going to make you some Ecuadorian/Peruvian style ones that I prepare at home and bring them for you to taste. You deserve it after all you do for everyone around you! My filling has beef, onions, raisins and olives or aceitunas! Now I'm hungry!
