Meet New Village House of Books Owners Cheryl and Steve Hare!

New bookstore opened in mid-August at 326 Village Lane.

Hello, Los Gatos ... meet new Village House of Books owners Cheryl and Steve Hare.

The new independent bookstore, 326 Village Lane, officially opened for business in mid August and now its owners are hoping the community will support their "hometown" book shop.

For more than two years, Los Gatos residents went without a formal bookstore in town after Borders closed in April of 2011.

On July 6, the Hares posted on Los Gatos Patch that they were opening Village House of Books behind Pedro's Restaurant and Cantina. Its hours of operation will be 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday.

The Hares recently married and moved to town in October. Their bookstore sells best-sellers, classics, children's books, and others in various topics, such as history, self-improvement, out-of-print and rare works of literature.

Since the closing of Borders, voracious readers in town had been going elsewhere to buy their books, shopping online for their favorite authors and supporting the Friends of Los Gatos Public Library nonprofit organization's bookstore at the former town library location, 110 E. Main St.

The Friends have been encouraging the community to support their sale of books since proceeds directly benefit the new Los Gatos Library, 100 Villa Ave.

The Friends' bookstore features quality donated books on a variety of topics, which are sold at affordable prices. The Friends have also been selling their books in the lobby of the new library by the coffee cart and on their Amazon on-line store.

The Friends' bookstore's hours of operation are 1-7 p.m. Tuesday; 2-6 p.m. Thursday; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday; and noon-5 p.m. Sunday.
