Los Gatos Planners OK Artisan Wine Depot

New retail establishment would also sell beer and have tasting events.

The Los Gatos Planning Commission has approved applicants Joseph Prang and Christine Tran's conditional-use permit for a retail wine and beer shop with tastings at 16212 Los Gatos Blvd., on property zoned CH, or highway commercial zone.

The store's plans must now be approved by the Los Gatos Town Council.

The site is located at the northeast corner of Los Gatos Boulevard and Shannon Road and has had several short-lived retail tenants since the closing of the Honda Dealership across the street and the used car sales lot, according to a staff report.

The wine and beer shop would be called Artisan Wine Depot Los Gatos and its owners have an existing location in Mountain View under the name Artisan Wine Depot Mountain View, 2482 W. El Camino Real.

The applicant, who needs to obtain an Alcoholic Beverage Control Board license, wants to operate a retail wine, beer and distilled spirits shop with scheduled tastings from 10 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

The tasting events would be controlled two-ounce pours and be for two to three hours between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. They would be led by winemakers, owners, growers, or brewers to showcase their region, company or philosophy, according to a staff report.

The Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department is said to have reviewed the application and has no comments or concerns, according to town staff.
