Editor's note: The following is an occasional series highlighting the people who work in Los Gatos.

On New Year's eve, we found Los Gatos letter carrier Martin Macias delivering the mail along Main Street.

Macias said he's the official postman for the downtown area along North Santa Cruz and University avenues, a section of Highway 9, Broadway and Bayview Avenue.
Macias is one of about 20 letter carriers working out of the downtown Los Gatos Post Office, 101 So. Santa Cruz Ave.

He's been on the job for 15 years, since 1989.

The best part about his work are his customers, he said.

"The residents and business owners in downtown Los Gatos are great," he said.

Macias' customers love his work so much that they show their appreciation with gifts and other tokens of gratitude.

Gilley's Coffee Shoppe, 47 No. Santa Cruz Ave., on Tuesday treated him to a free late Christmas lunch, he said.
