Los Gatos shoppers will have more choices to buy their groceries come Thursday when the new downtown Safeway will open to the public.
The store, at 470 No. Santa Cruz Ave., is expected to be opened from 6 a.m. until midnight or maybe even 24 hours a day like the Safeway at 15549 Union Ave., according to future employees who didn't want to be identified.
Count on it being fancier than the other two stores in town and include everything that most similar stores have, such as a bakery, deli, meat department, seafood area, lots of beautifully decorated aisles, customer service center and even underground parking.
Safeway recently completed construction of its first LEED-certified project in Santa Cruz. Future stores will be built to similar standards, according to the site.
Other nearby Safeway stores are on Pollard Road, Winchester Boulevard and Budd Avenue and Hamilton Avenue.
Los Gatans have many fancy choices when it comes to buying groceries, including Lucky in nearby San Jose, on Blossom Hill Road and and on Los Gatos Boulevard.
The new Safeway conducted a job fair to hire its employees, according to workers on the site who didn't want to be identified.
