Concerts, Art and Fourth of July Celebrations

When/Where: 5-7 p.m., Saturday, July 2, Vasona Lake County Park, 333 Blossom Hill Road.

Why Go: The fifth  free outdoor music concert will feature the high-energy bluegrass band Kitchen Help. Food and cash donations for Second Harvest Food Bank will be accepted at each concert, according to the event's Web site. Details: 408-354-2608.

When/Where: 7:30-10 p.m., Saturday, July 2, Stanford Stadium, 269 Campus Dr., Stanford.

Why Go: A bit of a drive, but worth it for a nice Saturday outing. This is your chance to literally get twice as much bang for the buck and some real kicks with MLS soccer. The San Jose Earthquakes take on the New York Red Bulls at 7:30 p.m. followed by a postgame fireworks extravaganza.

When/Where: 5-7 p.m., Sunday, July 3, , 110 E Main St.

Why Go: Music in the Park is a terrific Sunday afternoon event, especially this long holiday weekend when you still  have the Monday holiday ahead of you. This Sunday it's Bruce Gwynn and Big Rain performing with their mix of rock, country, blues, crossover and more.

When/Where:  12 p.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday; 75 Church St. 

Why Go: Take advantage of the holiday weekend Saturday or Sunday and do a bit of museum exploring at home. If you have always been meaning to see the Beatles exhibit for its nostalgic look at days gone past, this weekend might be the time to do so. And while you are at it, you might also wander over to the city's Art Museum at 4 Tait Avenue at W. Main Street to check out the abstract art exhibit currently on display.

When/Where: All day, Monday, July 4, , 208 E Main St. Monday

Why Go: It's Independence Day, a time to celebrate the birth of our nation. And Los Gatos is celebrating in style. The town will be wearing red-white-and-blue for the festivities that include an All-American Picnic and Games with a traditional band concert on the high school lawn. After the concert, there's a free cake and ice cream social. The day-long activities end with a twilight dance with music for every generation.
