By the looks of it on Tuesday,Gatos has been a success.
A store manager, who declined to be identified, said the new restaurant, 640 Blossom Hill Rd., has about 20 employees working in the 3,000-square-foot location.
At around noontime, it was hopping with hungry eaters.
The 40-seat capacity eatery serves beers and margaritas with meals. Its hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. It also has outdoor seating.
The food served was described by employees as Southwest Mexican, with the pinto beans cooked Mexican-style.
The chicken is marinated in adobo seasoning, they said and the barbacoa, or shredded beaf, is not typical, but the carnitas are pretty authentic.
A girl behind the food counter worked quickly to fill a box of giant burritos for a business order and customers waited behind a clear-glass protected serving area to either order burritos, so-called burrito bowls, crispy or soft tacos, salads or chips and guacamole.
