UPDATE: Bomb Squad Called Off; Streets Reopen in…

Sad Shutter: What Happened To Yogurt Castle?

The longtime establishment has been closed since November, and it's empty inside.

We kept hoping the doors would reopen soon, that maybe a remodel was underway or the owner took a European vacation.

But a Thursday visit to Yogurt Castle on North California Boulevard confirmed our worst fears — the decades-old yogurt shop in the cool building is closed for good.

The interior is stripped. There is no contact information or forwarding address.

Yogurt Castle is gone.

It has been a part of Walnut Creek for so many years. We're hoping to hear from people with memories of the place.

Tell us your favorite Yogurt Castle stories.

That's why most places close. Plus, it wasn't in the most convenient of locations for the demographic or times that generate frozen yogurt sales.

I went there when I could find a parking place. It wasn't easy and sometimes I just circled the block and left.

Thanks, Steve Curtis, for the history. Its something I always wondered about. We stopped there over the years even after the Festival closed. Maybe Scotts will buy it since it fits their courtyard architecture and retain the design.

The brick is done in the style of Carr Jones. I too have heard a relative continued his brick styles, but they originated on Carr Jones projects This building is not an original Carr Jones, but is still an architectural gem. Wish Walnut Creek had done a better job of honoring its architectural past over the years.

Not very accurate info about Doug Allinger the builder of Yogurt Park and the nearby gallery His stepfather was Carr Jones. Doug passed away Oct 6...hard to list all the beautiful homes he built or remodeled in the greater Bay Area.......one of his last was for Steve Jobs. .........He was the real deal
