5 Things You Need to Know Today, Aug. 2

The Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce has two great events to take advantage of: a luncheon featuring Capt. Alana Forrest and a business networking event this evening at California Cafe.

1.  presents Crossing Boundaries, an exhibition featuring the paintings of Ming Jing (Mike) Wang and the sculptures of Kristin Lindseth Rivera through Sept. 15, at 4 Tait Ave. at W. Main St. On Sunday, July 31, the museum sponsors a meet the artists reception 4-5 p.m., at the same location for members only. On Thursday, Sept. 15, 7-9 p.m., there will be a an artist demonstration. Details: 408-395-7386. 

2. Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police Capt. Alana Forrest will speak about her career in law enforcement on Aug. 3 at a luncheon sponsored by the  and . The luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at , 14595 Clearview Drive. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at www.losgatoschamber.com or 408-354-9300.

3. The 2011 Santa Clara County Youth Fair returns 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Aug. 4-7, at its San Jose grounds, 344 Tully Rd. A wide variety of fun activities and events are planned, including martial arts demonstrations, dancing, music, talent shows and more. 4. Today is your last chance to make a reservation for a guaranteed seat at Tuesday, Aug. 2 Los Gatos Biz to Biz Networking event 5-6:30 p.m. at  Details: 408-354-9300.

5. Have you signed up for the second-annual Jill’s Ride for Hope 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 27, beginning at Los Gatos High School? The fundraising event helps the nonprofit CASSY—Counseling and Support Services for Youth— at  which provides students with crisis intervention, ongoing counseling and proactive mental health education at no charge. It has been at LGHS full time since shortly after Jill Naber's death and the deaths of two students from separate causes. The event will feature a 5K bike ride, run or walk, a 30K bike ride and a 100K bike ride for serious athletes. There will also be a barbecue lunch at the school’s Memorial Plaza.
