1. What better way to celebrate summer than to attend a great art and wine festival? Los Gatos Fiesta de Artes, the town's only art and wine festival, continues today, Sunday, Aug. 14, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., for its 40th year, on the Civic Center grounds, 110 E. 2. Join a park ranger at 8 a.m., today, Sunday, Aug. 14, at the Vasona Lake County Park ranger office, 333 Blossom Hill Road, for an early morning 18-mile strenuous bike ride on the Los Gatos Creek Trail to observe and identify birds. Bring food to share and stay for a breakfast social at the end of the ride. Adults only please, not suited for children. Bring your bike, helmet and water. Details: 408-356-2729. 

3. The  is sponsoring a daily blood drive 10 a.m.-5 p.m., daily until Aug. 31, 2731 N. First St., San Jose. Donors can beat the heat and get a cool ice cream treat after they're done. The American Red Cross "Pint For a Pint" promotion runs through the end of the month and allows any donor that donates a pint of blood to receive a coupon for a free pint of ice cream at the nearest Baskin Robbins location.

4. a specialty toy store that allows you to build, race, learn and celebrate the engineering of classic cars, will be presenting a free "Fur, Scales and Tails" animal show at 10 a.m., today, Sunday, Aug. 14 at its store located at 21 W. Main St. The store will also be having a 30-percent-off sale on selected toys. Details: 408-402-3818.

5. Have you signed up for the second-annual Jill’s Ride for Hope, 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 27, beginning at Los Gatos High School? The fundraising event helps the nonprofit CASSY—Counseling and Support Services for Youth— at  which provides students with crisis intervention, ongoing counseling and proactive mental health education at no charge. It has been at LGHS full time since shortly after Jill Naber's death and the deaths of two students from separate causes. The event will feature a 5K bike ride, run or walk, a 30K bike ride and a 100K bike ride for serious athletes. There will also be a barbecue lunch at the school’s Memorial Plaza.
